There are a few things that you need to think about before you get started on your bathroom plumbing. One of the first things to have in mind is what materials you are going to need for the task at hand.
Make sure that you have the latest up to code materials, and that they are all the right length and sizes. You don’t want to catch yourself short on pipe and have to start all over again. Buying an extra piece or two won’t break your bank and just might come in very handy if you miscalculate the length and cut the pipe a bit too short. Remember, you can always cut more off, but it’s difficult to add more to the piece you already cut short.
Another thing you should make sure of is the water heater. You have to have the right sized water heater and make sure that it is installed correctly. If your water heater isn’t large enough you will, more than likely, run out of hot water at some point when someone is taking a shower or bath. This can get extremely annoying for some people.
Make sure that your water heater can handle a busy bathroom before you get started. It’s easier to have the right water heater, and then install it, rather than having to reinstall another water heater that is larger.
Always remember that your pipes and fittings have to be tight and leak proof. One of the best things to use is plumbers tape.
This will go on the threads of your fittings and acts as a water tight barrier so that there will be no leaks. A simple loose fitting can cause a leak that can end up costing you thousands of dollars in repairs to replace your flooring, or walls, if the pipe is leaking behind the wall. Think about things like this before you get started and you should have pretty easy sailing through your remodeling.
There is an old saying among professional craftsmen that goes, “Measure twice, and cut once.” You should keep this in mind as you measure your pipes before you lay them. Always make sure you have the right lengths and set it all up before you connect everything together, just to make sure that you have everything you are going to need before it’s too late to change it.
